tokyoPhile
split-screen b/w & color slide installation (2006)
tokyoPhile focuses on a narration involving various characters who meet up in Tokyo for a combination of professional
and personal reasons. The specificity of their endeavors is traced only in fragments yet shows how the respective
people become the protagonists in a coherent succession of events. Explicitly named brands hint at the professional
background of some of the characters, while many images reveal the extreme moments under which most of the action is taking place.
The overall time during which the story evolves encompasses only a few days, reflecting the hyper dynamics of a city which
offers endless possibilities for a fast-thinking and fast-acting crowd. Thus the chronicle of events develops into an image
file that reports the affinities of the involved protagonists to a place and its cultural as well as professional output.
